Master of Social Sciences (MSS) in Applied Sociology
The Master of Applied Sociology program aims to build leadership capacity and enhancing skills for meeting the needs of ever changing socio-cultural and economic world. As an interdisciplinary disciplinary approach, the program emphasis the translation of knowledge of social sciences into services. Solution of complex social problems is the main focus of the MSS program. By gaining intensive knowledge on research, the graduates will be able to analyze social problems for constructing policy and programs for the development of people who are in need. By receiving practical knowledge from internship, the graduates shall also be able to become competent to serve with development agencies as skilled personnel.
The Graduate programs under the department of Applied Sociology and Social Work will require three regular semesters. Within this timeframe, 44 Credits have to be completed by each student. Students having three/four years BSS/BA degree in any discipline from a recognized university are eligible for admission in Applied Sociology program. However, students having BA/BSS degree in any discipline except Sociology or Applied Sociology are required to complete 4 foundation courses worth of 12 credits before entering into regular program as an additional semester and they will require four semesters to complete MSS program in Applied Sociology.
Credit Waiver Policy
A students can get a maximum of 3 course waiver worth of 9 credits by the department if similar courses were completed from any recognized university. In this case contents and standards of those courses shall be examined by the department and it must be consistent with university policy.
